YOGA FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

These courses have been developed in response to a real need to take yoga much deeper into the community

The remit of yoga goes far beyond the anatomical postures and breathing exercises that many people associate with the practice

Although general yoga practice can deliver many physical and mental health benefits, the practice can go much deeper and can be life changing. As a healing modality yoga practices offer the possibility to effect change at a very deep level.

Yoga can play a vital role in alleviating suffering and addressing many of the chronic stress related conditions prevalent in the world today. It can also assist in helping to manage pain; to improve mobility and to deal with the trauma and the social and emotional context that underlies so many health related conditions.

Specific gentle yoga practices, when repeated frequently and under the expert guidance of trained practitioners, can address many of these concerns.

Practical Remedial Yoga

This course provides a general introduction to the basic skills and practices that are relevant to working as a Professional Remedial Yoga Practitioner, within the framework of classic Yoga philosophy.

This general course is designed to allow practitioners to develop their skills in order to be able to work confidently with the aged, people in Daycare and Residential Centres, people with Special Needs, Hospitals and Hospices and other Health and Social Care environments.

This 144 Hour course provides the practical training to become accomplished Remedial Yoga Practitioners.

The course is in two parts which can be taken separately over an extended period of two years or, more intensively, together in one year. The second part is available on its own to practitioners who already hold a recognised Yoga qualification.

Part 1: Yoga Foundation.

This is the basis for all The Yoga Studio training and this, or a comparable qualification, is a prerequisite for all our professional courses. The Foundation Course comprises nine tuition weekends at monthly intervals over twelve months. For further details see the Yoga Foundation Course brochure.

Part 2: Practical Remedial Yoga.

Six days tuition covering the underlying philosophy and energetic systems that activate remedial yoga, together with sufficient practical anatomy and physiology to be able to work safely and effectively with a wide range of health issues.

An optional day covering business set up and business considerations will be available. An optional weekend retreat will also be available.

Wherever possible a qualified mentor will be assigned to each student and indemnity training insurance will be arranged through our insurance brokers to enable students to gain practical experience.

OBJECTIVES of the COURSE:

By the end of this course, all students will have:

  • expanded their own practice of Yoga to develop an understanding of the use of particular asanas (physical practices), pranayamas (expansion of “vital” energy through the use of the breath), psycho=physical seals (mudras and bhandas), relaxation and other techniques, to activate and encourage the self-healing and self-empowerment process in themselves and others.
