TAI-CHI CHUAN (Tai-Chi) CLASSES

We are delighted to announce that we are commencing a new block of six Tai Chi Chuan classes with  Petesy commencing at 2.30pm on 18 January. 

Come to all six classes in the block and we will give you ticket for a free Yoga, Tai Chi or Pilates class.

Tai Chi Chuan

 

is accessible to all ages and physical abilities and can be practised on many levels, from a simple 'meditative' exercise to a realistic martial

art!

 

The most familiar from of the practice is known as the “empty hand form” that employs a series of slow flowing movements, based on the Chinese concept of Qi (Chi) - life force - and the princilple of Yin and Yang.

 

It is the form seen performed in the parks in China, early in the morning.

These can be used at any of our classes and are not time limited. They can be used individually at "Drop - in" classes or for "Block" classes. if you come to all six classes in a block we will give you a ticket for a free Yoga, Tai Chi or Pilates class.

Petesy Burns 

 

has been practising Traditional Yang style Tai Chi Chuan for 15 years and teaching for the past 12 years. His original lineage was traced to master Chu King Hung, 3rd disciple of the late Grandmaster Yang Sau Chung. His current lineage can be traced back to Grandmaster Yang Zhenji, holder of the Yang family style. Through 'Making Moves Tai Chi' Petesy has organised various seminars. His approach to teaching is to put the needs of individual first and to allow their unique journey to unfold organically. A bit of gentle persuasion will be thrown in now and again!

 

Petesy says that by performing the postures of the Form, in co-ordination with relaxed, natural breathing and the application of Yi, which is the intent or focus of the mind, we help to keep the Qi moving smoothly through the subtle energy channels. And so, whilst practising external movements, we are assisting the free flow of internal energy. 

 

Aside from promoting the flow of Qi energy Tai Chi Chuan can also help to increase flexibility, suppleness and exercise the muscles. The smooth, gentle movements also aid relaxation and help to keep the mind calm and focused. These benefits are extremely useful in today's stressful society.
